This MAX30102 ready-to-connect module is an integrated pulse oximeter and heart rate monitor module. This highly sensitive sensor module measures oxygen saturation in the blood, as well as heart rate (pulse). Functionality: MAX30102 includes internal LEDs, photo detectors, optical elements and low-noise electronics with ambient light suppression. The module communicates via a standard I2C-compatible interface and can be easily read out with various microcontrollers. The function is based on the absorption properties of hemoglobin in the blood. Oxygen-containing hemoglobin absorbs more infrared light than red light, while deoxyhemoglobin (low oxygen) absorbs more red light than infrared light. Therefore, the red and infrared LEDs in the oximeter emit light alternately, while the photo diode receives the reflected light, which is not absorbed by the blood. The ratio of red and infrared light received from the photodiode is used to calculate the oxygen content in the blood. Based on the pulsating nature of the arterial blood flow, the pulse rate and intensity are also determined and displayed during the measurement.
